ART & GLASS

Bespoke, contemporary stained glass windows and art by Grace Ayson, an artist and designer based in Ramsgate, Kent, in the UK .

About Grace

Grace Ayson is a stained glass designer and artist based in Ramsgate in the UK. Her work combines striking modern draughtsmanship with traditional craft and technique. She has worked as an artist for many years, creating drawings concerned with light and its effects on architectural spaces. This interest in the living, moving effects of light and its impact on the viewer has found its ultimate expression in her work as a glass artist. Her background in fine art is essential to her working practice, giving a sense of expressive spontaneity to her work.

Grace’s glass work draws on her extensive knowledge of traditional and modern techniques and materials gained from fifteen years’ experience as a stained glass conservator at the highly regarded Cathedral Studios, at Canterbury Cathedral. She works from her stained glass studio by the sea in Ramsgate, Kent, in the UK, where she designs and makes windows for domestic, ecclesiastical and commercial settings.

Grace’s work has taken her all over the world, and using the knowledge gained in her many years’ working on the windows of historically important, listed, and ecclesiastical buildings, Grace also undertakes restoration and replacement of damaged stained glass windows and often works with other studios as a freelance glass painter.

Grace is a member of the BSMGP, ICON, and the CGS. She is also an Artist Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Glass Painters, and a QEST Scholar. She has exhibited her drawings and stained glass art at galleries throughout the UK and has work in a number of collections.
